MICHAEL CANNON ANNOUNCES RE-ELECTION FOR MEAD SCHOOL BOARD
Current Mead School Board Director Michael Cannon is announcing his campaign for re-election to the Mead School Board. When asked about this decision, Cannon states "I'm grateful for the chance to represent the taxpayers, parents, students, and staff to ensure Mead continues to have fantastic schools. I'd be honored to continue serving on the Board."
While on the board, Cannon represented parents' and students' rights during the Covid lockdowns and was a voice against forced mandates and school funding threats. He advocated for Mead to be one of the first districts in the State to return kids to school. Further, he's advocated for updating various policies and better recognizing parents as the primary stakeholder in their child’s education. This included fighting to keep social agendas out of schools, while focusing on performance and closing the achievement gap.
As a strong voice for parents, Cannon added, "People are concerned about what's happening in school districts. They want someone who will stand up and represent parents when the State tries to overreach and require education standards that do not reflect their personal beliefs. They want someone at the local level, who stands up for parents’ rights and viewpoints."
Recently, Cannon also voted to hire incoming Superintendent, Travis Hanson, a choice celebrated by the Mead community.
"As we finish this school year and look ahead, the budget is my top priority," said Cannon. "We have to ensure we're putting kids first with budget decisions and showing the community and taxpayers that we are providing great value for the outstanding education and Mead experience available to our kids."
Cannon already has wide support in the Mead community and a long list of endorsements including: Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, County Commissioner and proud Mead dad, Josh Kerns, newly elected Sheriff John Nowels, County Treasurer Michael Baumgartner, Sen. Mike Padden, and City Councilman and Mead resident Jonathan Bingle.
